BROOKE GLADSTONE: And now a few of your letters. On our conversation with the head of the Catholic Press Association last week, Danielle Fontaine had this to say: "The Catholic Press's apparent opinion that the interests of the Church organization are more important than reporting on events that deeply affect the lives of Catholics speaks to a hypocrisy that exists in all churches. "Reverence for a higher being in most religions requires kindness and truth, yet to protect the machine that orchestrates that reverence, religions are willing to forsake their actual religious duties."

BOB GARFIELD:J. Charles Strinz wrote to say that he "enjoyed John Solomon's report on magazine renewal scams." He had his own run-in with the Minnesota Star Tribune that went all the way to the state's attorney general before the Trib backed down. He writes: "Meanwhile my 11 year old was receiving collection notices from Kids' Discover Magazine. I was in the process of contacting the New York Attorney General when the publisher finally responded and took my son off their collection list."

BROOKE GLADSTONE:By the way, neither of those two letter writers told us where they live or how to pronounce their names, which brings us to this letter from John Patrick Carrol. "Okay, okay!" he writes. "Every week I hear the same injunction. I am finally complying with it. My name is John. It's pronounced John. I live in New York. So stop asking."
