CHRIS BANNON:
This is On the Media. I’m Chris Bannon.
BROOKE GLADSTONE:
And I’m Brooke Gladstone. Last week, in a segment called “Stories from Over There,” I said that Army Ranger Pat Tillman was killed by friendly fire while in Afghanistan, but as several of you pointed out in your emails, it’s possible that “friendly fire” isn’t the right term.
The army defines friendly fire as, quote, “A casualty circumstance applicable to persons killed in action or wounded in action mistakenly or accidentally by friendly forces actively engaged with the enemy.”
The Associated Press reported last week that evidence they acquired through a FOIA request introduced the possibility that Tillman’s death was no accident. The investigation is ongoing.
