BOB GARFIELD: Guiding Light, an English language soap opera on CBS, was first broadcast on radio in 1937. On Tuesday it debuted in yet another format as a podcast, an audio file that you can download onto your computer or portable MP3 player. Sure, the show may have started on radio but nowadays anyone who watches "sudsers," as they're called in the biz, can see that they're pretty dependent on the visuals. So in the interest of furthering the podcast craze, which has been very good to our show, On the Media offers a special edition of last Wednesday's episode of Guiding Light. [MUSIC UP AND UNDER]
MAN: Scene opens in a garage. Coop is shirtless, working under the hood on a red sports car. [MUSIC UNDER] Lizzie, clad in a summer frock, enters the garage.
LIZZIE: Hey.
COOP: Ow!
LIZZIE: [LAUGHS]
MAN: He cracks his head on the hood.
COOP: Oh!
LIZZIE: You okay?
COOP: Ah, God!
LIZZIE: Are you bleeding?
COOP: No. Look, I'm I'm fine. Okay? I'm I'm just fine and dandy.
LIZZIE: Fine, because I was going to kiss it and make it better but no.
MAN: Comprehension creeps slowly across his sculpted features.
COOP: Really, um, come to think of it, my head is still kind of throbbing, you know.
LIZZIE: [WHISPERING] Really?
COOP: Yeah. Yeah.
LIZZIE: Okay. [KISS] How's that?
COOP: It's good but, um
MAN: Love glistens.
COOP: the pain I think is is spreading so, uh, I think a little bit lower might do the trick a little bit.
LIZZIE: How's that?
COOP: A little bit lower and I'm perfect. [KISSING SOUNDS]
MAN: Cut to thermometer. 98 degrees and rising. [KISSING SOUNDS]
