Alison Stewart: Let's end this hour with some music. Recently, roots musician and our Native Daughters member Amethyst Kia joined us for an all of it special performance in WNYC Studio 5. She played a few songs from her new album Still and Bright live in the studio. Most of her songs were played solo with an acoustic guitar, but she brought out the banjo for a bonus song that has not been played on the air yet. Let's listen to Amethyst Kia's performance of I Will Not Go Down. [MUSIC -- Amethyst Kia -- I Will Not Go Down]
Amethyst Kia: I will not go down,
I will not go down, down, down.
I will not go down.
I will not go down, down, down
I will not go down.
I will not go down, down, down.
I will not go down.
I will not go down, down, down.
Bread covered in blood to ease my soul
Bread covered in blood to bring me gold.
I came to fight for my kingdom.
It cost too much blood for God to come.
Is someone coming? Is anyone coming?
No one's coming at all.
I'm the witch inside this fear.
Every spell's been broken here
If I left to be all alone, I'll kill the beast.
I will not go down.
I will not go down, down, down.
I will not go down.
I will not go down, down, down, down.
I am the only one to ease my soul.
I am the only one who's in control
All this time I've served, but now I see
The only one I never served was me.
Someone coming. Is anyone coming?
No one's coming.
Alison Stewart: That's Amethyst Kia singing I Will Not Go Down. We'll have more of it after the news.
Amethyst Kia: I'm the witch inside this fear
Every spell's been broken here
If I am left to be all alone,
I'll kill the beast out on my own.
I will not go down.
I will not go down, down, down.
I will not go down.
